Slow day at work

Postby colinm on Wed Mar 10, 2010 1:23 am

Well It's a slow day at work due to 40kt winds and the associated large waves, so I thought I'd post some photos we've taken from the ROV. Not the greatest quality as they are grabbed from the video feed using Winfast, but for novelty value they are ok I guess.

Yeah, it's feet. We changed the readouts to display metric a couple of years back. Seabed depth here is 314m give or take a metre.

I'll dig up/take some photos of the ROV for you later today as the ones we have on the computer seem to mainly show particular areas of the ROV only.

Take a pic against an original. Its good to show just how the pressure down there affects these cups.

When I was the Engineer of the RAN's Oceanographic Research Ship (HMAS COOK) back in the early 80's we used to attach these cups and various other bits and pieces to the sampling probes which took samples from the bottom in water thousands of metres deep. The results were very interesting.

You stay away from my ship's clock Gudge. I don't need it miniaturised!

Mick, Ikm. Here's some photos of the ROV, or as it was described to me once, our underwater camera and the equipment needed to get it to the job site.

Martyn. Sending foam cups down is good fun but, unfortunately they have only got paper cups on here. :( Spoil sports!

Till. What are gulp worms?

Has anyone checked with the Russian ice skaters if it is okay to use that paintjob?
