Newbie lighting question

Postby tuppyholeman » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:26 am

If I am in a dark environment and want to take a photo of my buddy, how do I light it?

Do I get him to turn his torch away from the camera, but what about my lights?

I know this is rather amateur, but just trying to work it out.

Buddys light points away from the camera.
Photographers light used to focus the shot then drop it
Strobes at the usual 45 degree outward angle.

I use a video light with a red filter at night. The fish don't even see it for the most part and its enough for the camera to focus with.

So the subject can point his light behind him or maybe to the side.

My lights on 45 angle. Can use a torch to set camera up ect, but turn it off when taking the shot?

Exactly
But honestly in a caves I pretty much use only one set-up and just change the strobe power depending on the subject. Too bloody hard otherwise
